Surprise US Marshals Inspection Sends 400 DC Inmates To PA Fed Pen, Reports Say

A federal penitentiary in central Pennsylvania will be receiving some new inmates from Washington, DC after a surprise inspection by the US Marshals Service, according to the the Washington Post reports.

Lewisburg Federal Penitentiary in Pennsylvania is scheduled to receive approximately 400 inmates from the DC facility following a decision regarding the Marshal's briefing, according to the Post.

Prison workers had apparently been withholding food and water from inmates and other various "systemic failures" were uncovered in the nearly week-long, unannounced investigation last month, U.S. District Court in Washington, Judge Royce C. Lamberth said.

A transfer date has not yet been announced.

Lewisburg is a medium-security prison which currently houses 594 inmates, according to the US Bureau of Prisons
